When Bridges Close

One thing that really bugs me is when one of the north shore bridge closes. There are 2 bridges that barely can take the traffic of cars on a regular day and when 1 bridge closes, the other brigde gets ALL the diverted over flow traffic. This has happened several times in the past couple months already due to various reasons (weather, accidents, 'police incidents' such as a jumper on the bridge). Every morning that I work, I need to cross one of the bridges and so I get a little nervous everytime that one of the bridges will have problems which will end up essentially tripling or quadrupling my travel time. It's better on days where I start work after rush hour times. I can't imagine if both bridges were blocked/closed and there was some need to get out of the city - it would be pure pandamonium. I wonder what will happen in 2010 with the Olympics here with so many people being here. I really predict that the traffic is going to be really really bad at that time...I'm even thinking ahead about what will be the best way for me to travel around the city for myself at that time if I'm still here - move closer to work so I don't have to drive across a bridge? live closer to public transit routes? who knows...
